Professional Technology Conference
As some of you know, I also write Software (AKA “The Day Job”). I recently had the opportunity to attend the Women in Technology Summit in San Jose, CA. Most of the conferences I attend these days are Reader/Writer events. The professional conference was similar in some ways and different in others. Overall I learned a lot and had a great time networking! Keep reading to discover the top five benefits of attending WITI Summit 2017.
Top 5 Benefits
- Networking Opportunities
- Informative Sessions
- In Depth “Circles”
- Job Fair
- Awesome Swag!
1. Networking Opportunities
There were many opportunities to mix and mingle with presenters, industry professionals, and other conference attendees. Twenty-two colleagues from different areas of my company also attended the conference, giving me a great chance to meet fellow Castmembers from all over the country. I also had the pleasure of meeting women from Walgreens, Adobe, LinkedIn, and Tibco–just to mention a few. Making connections couldn’t have been easier at WITI Summit 2017.
2. Informative Sessions
Of the sessions that I attended, the speakers were knowledgeable and I learned something from each one. There was something for everyone. Including:
- Managers looking to promote change and increase equality in the workplace
- Women seeking empowerment or skills to drive empowerment
- Anyone looking for inspiration to succeed
- and Learning to promote yourself
Sessions I enjoyed:
Personal Branding: It’s No Longer Optional – Susan Chritton
Making LinkedIn Work for You – Amanda Healy
Realize Your Potential in the $1.3 Trillion Social Economy – Gretchen Fox, Jan McClure, Sharon Crost, and Maria Ogneva
3. In Depth “Circles”
Another great feature of WITI Summit 2017 were the in depth “Circles”. These were small groups (6-8) lead by a knowledgeable moderator to discuss topics in more detail. These small sessions gave attendees a chance to deep dive into real world scenarios and ask specific questions to be discussed with the entire group.
4. Job Fair
One part of the conference that wasn’t a huge benefit for me personally was the Job Fair. However, if you are on the hunt, WITI would be a great place to start your search. The networking options alone could lead to an opportunity, but combine that with a Job Fair and you have a great resource for finding a new opportunity.
5. Awesome Swag!
The Swag was pretty cool and they had a great Conference Bag (the two most important things at every conference). WITI also used the Whova app, which made scheduling my sessions easy.
Exhibits from many different companies were at the conference and each one had some great swag. Amazon was giving away an Echo (I didn’t win). Disney had t-shirts and Mickey pens. More than one vendor had tiny laptop camera covers (it was the most popular swag option at the event). There were cellphone wallets, cellphone stands, and screen cleaners. Overall I walked away with some pretty awesome swag 🙂
